Update 2011/09 : To update other members in a running stack once you have prepared the master, you must copy and enable the image on each of them as follows : Switch#copy flash1:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-35.
SE5flash2: Destination filename [c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-35.

Step 3: change the boot statement on each member I had a 3 switch stack and issued: hostname#boot system switch 1 flash:/c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-58.
I'd like to upgrade a stack of Cisco 2960s switches with a new configuration, and I would like to know what is required to copy a pre-populated file from an FTP server to the switch stack.
You manage everything from the primary switch and you never touch the “slave” switches.
So I recently ran into a situation where I had to upgrade the IOS on the switches.
So how was I suppose to do this since this wasn’t a standalone switch?
First off, a good white paper read from Cisco on this.
A quick look at the boot vars show which image will be used. Here we see that it’s still the original one : Switch#show boot BOOT path-list : flash:/c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35. SE5Config file : flash:/Private Config file : flash:/Enable Break : no Manual Boot : no HELPER path-list : Auto upgrade : yes Auto upgrade path : command to select which image to boot, even a Cisco Wiki page for the 3750 (which I suspect was wrong about this). The proper command is this one, run in Switch#show boot BOOT path-list : flash:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5Config file : flash:/Private Config file : flash:/Enable Break : no Manual Boot : no HELPER path-list : Auto upgrade : yes Auto upgrade path : , but you can also just leave it, as the switch will automatically boot the first image it finds alphabetically if the ones from the boot path-list aren’t found. CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC[...] Switch#configure terminal Switch(config)#boot system switch all flash:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.tar" but when I try and download it on the remote switch using "archive download-sw /leave-old-sw tftp://.10/c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-35.SE5.tar" it fails with the following: Could not buffer tarfile...using multiple downloadsexamining image...%Error opening tftp://.10/c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-35.
